My Health Journey – The Condensed Version Part 1

For those of you who don’t know me, I am a Certified Holistic Health Coach. I just finished school at the Institute of Integrated Nutrition (best decision EVER). Often people always ask “What exactly is a health coach?”  In a nutshell, I am a supportive mentor and wellness authority helping clients feel their best through food and lifestyle changes. I tailor individualized wellness programs to meet my client’s needs. Whether you are trying to lose weight, increase energy, or sleep better at night, I am here to motivate individuals to make lasting changes while getting to the root of these issues. The second biggest question I get asked is “What makes a health coach unique?" Relationships, exercise, career, and spirituality are just as important to your health as the food you eat. Understanding this, I take a holistic approach to supporting the whole person.

Alright, on a 1- 10 scale (10 being the highest), how important is your health? Sounds silly to think you wouldn’t say 10, right?? For some people it takes being sick from time to time. Maybe a chronic illness, gaining weight, food allergies, an unexpected diagnosis, depression, or even a death. We live in a world where obesity is at its highest state. There are 70% of deaths caused by chronic illness each year. 1 in 3 American adults have high blood pressure. Affecting over 40 million adults, anxiety is the most common mental illness in the US. I can’t imagine what the numbers would be if we included children and teenagers. An estimated 6.4 million American children and early teens suffer from ADHD.  The list could go on and the numbers keep getting higher and higher.  Scary AF! I believe food can change EVERYTHING. I witnessed it first hand.  REAL food is my medicine.

I didn’t know it at the time but my health journey started when I was a baby. I had stomach problems growing up my whole life. I was told I had a low immune system. I would literally get sick every couple of weeks.  I battled with severe depression and anxiety.
Have you ever had panic attacks? OMG, they are the worse!!!! You actually think you are dying.  At one point I was on 5 different anti-anxiety + depression medications. I felt like a zombie. I was numb. I felt like I was walking through life half asleep. Don’t get me wrong, I am not opposed to medication. If you need them, please take them. Personally, it was not serving me anymore.
My allergies worsened as I got older. Then they added 3 allergy medication to the mix. Oh yeah, I didn’t mention yet that I was diagnosed with ADD at the age of 26. So let’s just add another pill to the rest. It was terrible!!! I was sick of being sick!!
At one point I was hospitalized for internal bleeding in my abdomen. I had over a liter of blood leaking through my bowel system. I had 10 doctors look at my case and no one could give me an answer.  WTF! It's scary to think that your whole life can be taken away at any moment.

Over a year ago, I knew I wanted to make a BIG health change.  I wanted to feel good. F*ck, not good, GREAT!! I wanted to feel ALIVE. I didn’t want to rely on any pills to get me through the day. Thanks to my intuition and my schooling, I was able to make that leap.  With the interest in food, I wanted to dive deeper into the psychology and physiology of how food made us feel. The correlation between food, body, mind and spirit astonished me.  While experimenting with all kinds of foods, I was able to find what makes me feel my very best.
I don’t do diets. I don’t count calories.  But I do eat REAL Food. Of course, I have my cheat days.  I took dairy out of the picture which cleared up my allergies. No more post-nasal drip or mucus in my throat every morning. I don’t eat red meat because it made me gassy, bloated, foggy-headed, and moody. I try to stay away from gluten since it makes me tired and lethargic.
I like to stay away from sugar especially white sugar since it disrupts my overall health. It was the main reason for my gut issues.  And with my anxiety, I eat a lot of grounding vegetables (like, carrots, beets, sweet potatoes, radishes), along with meditation, and yoga. The anxiety is still there but I have built a better relationship with it.

Today standing strong, I no longer take any medications!!!!!! I never thought I would see the day but it finally happened.
I haven’t been sick in over 7 months. Yay!! No more stomach issues, no allergies, more energy, less irritable, less anxious, and a stronger immune system.  I feel GREAT!  With the shift in foods and lifestyle change, I feel like a whole new ME. I feel compelled to share my story, so YOU can take charge wherever you are in your health journey. It all starts with a small adjustment to get to the big victories. In all this mess, it helped me find my purpose in better myself and to inspire others live a happier & healthier life. The universe once again was guiding me this entire time.  It always provides in the most miraculous ways.
